Tunneler FAQ
From MetroPipe WIKI
What exactly does the Tunneler do?
The Tunneler does two things:
- It encrypts everything between your machine and ours.
- It hides all your surfing behind our proxy.
So, no one but me knows where I surf?
Exactly. (Unless, of course, you tell someone.)
Are your servers secure?
As secure as they can possibly be. They are not accessible to the public, and are housed in secure, private facilities. We use Open Source running on Linux servers wherever possible.
Does anyone else provide services like Metropipe Tunneler?
There is one large Anon service, though we really don't think of them as direct competitors. They are more of a privacy service for soccer moms. First of all, they keep logs. Secondly, they work very closely with several US government agencies. That means that they will do whatever the US government wants them to do. So, if you become the "threat of the month," you'll be in big trouble. Civil liberties have always been about protecting people from governments, and our "competitor" is in bed with the biggest and most intrusive of governments.
